Behaviour/Learning Disorder

What do you hope for?
The ability for myself or my child to handle stress and act respectfully and appropriately. To function well in society.

Some parents have hope to keep their child from spending their life in jail due to their behaviors.

Hope for family safety, due to fears of their parent’s or teenager’s rage.

What are Behavior Disorders?
There can be many names for Behavior Disorders: BD (Behavior Disorders), ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder), CD (Conduct Disorder) are some of the actual diagnosis. Many of these behaviors are symptoms of people diagnosed with ADD, Depression or others.

Symptoms of Behavior Disorders:

  • Defiance
  • Tantrums
  • Oppositional behaviors
  • Oxidative stress
  • Jekyll/Hyde personality
  • Irritability
  • Anger
  • Strong willed
  • Inability to hand the word “no”
  • Road rage
  • Low Stress Tolerance
  • Excellent behavior in public, yet defiance at home
  • Torture animals

    Causes of Behavior Disorder:
There are no denying environmental experiences and exposures have a huge effect on behaviors. Professional therapy and coaching are excellent tools. Sometimes these tools are ineffective. PMC’s approach is to investigate any underlying reasons for these behaviors other than the obvious. Family history is an important clue to reasons for behaviors. If dad or uncle Joe had temper or behavior problems, then it is likely that there is a genetic link effecting and reason.

Pfeiffer approach:
Evaluation and treatment at PMC does not require an official diagnosis of Mood and behavior disorder.

Biochemical individuality
Just as we each have a unique set of fingerprints, we each also have a unique brain chemistry. Genetics is known to influence eye color and overall health risks, including biochemical imbalances. Clinically relevant biochemical differences are seen in people with mental, behavior/learning and developmental disorders.

The Brain = Chemical Factory
Neurotransmitters (NT), (eg., serotonin and dopamine) are manufactured in the brain. Neurotransmitters are chemical substances that transmit nerve impulses from cell to cell. The ram materials for NT synthesis are nutrients: vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Nutrient imbalances (genetic or acquired) can result in problems in brain chemistry.

Oxidative Stress
Oxidative stress is caused by excessive free-radicals. These are unstable molecules that can damage normal cells. This damage prevents cells from doing their jobs well and decrease the ability to use nutrients effectively. Balanced nutrient intake and use is needed for normal cell function. Any disturbance can show up as a biochemical imbalance.

Individuality Matters
Due to genetic and environmental influences a person may be deficient in several nutrients, as well as overloaded in others. Multiple vitamins are rarely effective, as they may worsen existing nutrient excess and/or induce another nutrient imbalance.

Targeted Nutrient Therapy
Genetic nutrient deficiency may require many times the RDA to achieve normalization/optimization. Genetic overloads may require biochemical therapy to eliminate the nutrient excess. Treatment focuses on correcting imbalances that based on history, physical assessment, laboratory testing and clinical symptoms.

Pfeiffer Treatment compared to traditional treatment:
Traditional treatment for mood and behavior disorders may include the use of stimulant medication. This can be effective for minimizing or eliminating symptoms, however certain side effects are not unusual with the use of this type of medication. These can include but not limited to anxiety, depression, mood swings, tics, loss of appetite, sleeplessness and “rebound” symptoms as the medication wears off. We offer a safe, natural alternative to traditional treatment.

Treatment Compliance
Compliance with our nutrient program is important for success. The prescription will recommend capsules of powder and/or specific oils or liquids. For our children who cannot swallow capsules, flavored syrups can be recommended to mix with powder to create a liquid for easier compliance. Dietary changes may be recommended based on individual needs.

Staff RN is available by phone throughout the entire process for support or questions. After approximately 4-6 months of compliance, a follow up appointment is needed to “tweek and find tune” each prescription.
